France bans influencer drinks ads

French courts rule Instagram influencers' drinks adverts are illegal and must be removed. Companies such as Champagne brand Laurent Perrier have had posts they are linked to removed by French courts after breaking French law.

French organisation Addictions France, took Meta/Instagram to court and Instagram has now been forced to take down posts from around 20 different influencers, who together have a combined 5 million followers on the social media platform.

The court said that the influencer posts were against the law since they allowed alcohol brands to reach large numbers of young people, given that under-25s make up a core section of social media users.
