Wine GB announce latest production and growth figures

Wine GB, the UK trade body for wine, announced that the UK now has 4,300ha under vine, with a growth of 74% in the last five years, with UK exports now at 7% of production up from 4% the year before.

Kent is the home to just over a quarter of all vineyards while West and East Sussex are 15 and 13% respectively. Sparkling wine grapes are dominant with Chardonnay the UK’s most planted grape with 31% of total plantings followed closely by Pinot Noir at 29%. Pinot Meunier is 9%, followed by Bacchus, which although not used in fizz, has a reputation for making fresh aromatic still white wines.
