IWC announce award-winning wines

The International Wine Challenge has released the results for 2024, with 13 gold medals going to English producers mainly for sparkling wines, though a surprise was in the red wine category, Gusbourne’s Pinot Noir won a gold and received a trophy for best English red.

France got the most golds with 72, while Australia came second with 54 gold medals, Spain pipped Portugal with 34 vs 33 gold medals. Italy may have got the 5th largest number of medals but only 15 golds being well beaten by New Zealand's 23 golds. These included Church Road Grand Reserve Chardonnay 2021 that was the shows top Chardonnay beating all those Burgundies, while the competition's top Syrah also went to New Zealand winery Kennedy Point for their 2021 Syrah. Showing that while Sauvignon Blanc maybe the back bone of the New Zealand wine industry, their Chardonnay, Syrah and Pinot Noir consistently prove they are amongst the best in the world.
