Penfolds Grange trials glass stoppers

Penfolds is trialling a revolutionary glass stopper that mimics the porous qualities of traditional cork and allows oxygen to get to the wine - essential for the ageing of fine wine. The trials are in their early stages on just a few cases of the 2006 Grange. Chief winemaker Peter Gago says the stoppers are very different to the Vino-Lok glass seals which have a silicon ring between the stopper and bottle top.

Assuming initial trials are successful the project will need to be financed by Foster's, Penfolds' parent company but that won't neccesarily be known until 2-3 years time once the wine has had a chance to age.
