Survey reveals what UK wine drinkers want
UK wine drinkers are less concerned with the specific region their wine is from and more interested in the country of origin and whether the wine is on promotion. That's according to the Wine and Spirit Trade Association's latest Consumer Intelligence survey which showed 48% of respondents said region is important, against 59% who wanted to know which country when making their buying decision.
The survey also showed that promotions are more important than ever with 77% of respondents saying discounts like 3 for £10, or money off, were very important compared to 61% three years ago.
Chardonnay is still the nation's favourite white wine but Pinot Grigio has overtaken Sauvignon Blanc as the UK's second most popular white grape variety.
Wine Intelligence, for the WSTA, surveyed 3,059 regular UK wine drinkers between March and April 2009.
