Second Growth Montrose grows bigger

Second Growth Chateau Montrose has purchased 22 hectares of vines from neighbour Chateau Phelan Ségur, a former Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel from the now defunct 2003 classification. Owner and billionaire Martin Bouygues has bought plots of Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc increasing the Montrose estate from 67 ha to 89 ha.

According to director Jean Delmas the plot was once part of Montrose, until the end of 19th century. He says the terroir is superb, on the top of the Montrose hill, and next year it is hoped the grapes will be included in both the first and second wines.
