Average bottle prices are up
Latest data shows the average price for a bottle of wine in the UK has risen to £4.40, up 13p compared to a year ago. The Nielsen figures also showed all main countries prices rising except for New Zealand which fell from £6.39 to £6. The decrease reflects the price discounting on NZ wines by UK supermarkets, but New Zealand wines still have the highest average price at £1 dearer on average than the next most expensive country, France. Discounts should abate next year dues to a smaller NZ vintage in 2010.
