British drinking less not more
According to an annual survey by the British Beer & Pub Association, UK alcohol consumption has fallen for the fourth year in a row with a 6% drop in consumption in 2009 being the sharpest decline in 60 years. British drinkers are consuming 13% less alcohol than in 2004, and the country’s consumption is below the EU average. The BBPA survey, published in its Statistical Handbook 2010, also showed that beer makes up 60% of all alcohol sales in the on-trade and wine accounts for 17% of sales.
