English sparkling beats top Champagnes
An English sparkling wine produced by Ridgeview in East Sussex scooped the best sparkling wine trophy at the Decanter World Wine Awards beating top Champagnes along the way. Ridgeview's Grosvenor Blanc de Blancs 2006 won the International Trophy for Sparkling wine over £10 as well taking the Regional Trophy. Owner and winemaker Mike Roberts took his entire staff to the ceremony at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden to collect the Regional Trophy but had no idea the wine had won the International. Decanter's Tastings Director, Christelle Guibert, said the win was truly incredible and rubberstamps England's membership to that exclusive club of world class sparkling wine producers.
