Asda wine advisor upsells customers
UK supermarket chain Asda is rolling out its electronic wine advisor machines to all its stores after a successful trial which led to higher sales and moved consumers up to more premium wines. The wine advisor will also appear in Wal-Mart stores in China, India and some stores in America. At the Wine & Spirit Trade Association conference this week Adrian McKeon, category director for beers, wines and spirits said Asda shoppers were maintaining their spend on alcohol despite falling disposable incomes and that research had shown 45% of customers would like to be more confident in their wine purchasing.
