UK firm in the pink
One of the UK's most successful sparkling wine producers, Nyetimber, is to launch its first rosé. The blend is three-quarters Chardonnay, one quarter Pinot Noir. The first 1500 bottles of Nyetimber Rosé 2007 are being released now and will be available through top restaurants such as Haddasan and the Savoy Hotel with Harvey Nichols as the main stockists as well as its online shop.
All fruit was hand harvested with the Pinot Noir grapes destined for fermentation on their skins, de-stemmed beforehand. A cool June in 2007 during flowering led to lower yields and, although summer was not the finest, a warm, dry September resulted in good ripeness by harvest-time. Vintage sparkling rosé will only be produced in the best years and there are no plans for a non-vintage sparkling rosé.
