Mysterious allergen could be the cause of stuffy noses when drinking wine.

They say that a glass of red wine is great for health as it is full of antioxidants. However, scientists have recently discovered that some allergies caused by wine, such as skin rashes, headaches and stuffy noses are due to the presence of an allergen in the drink.

The discovery of this mysterious allergen called glycoprotein, continues wine makers search to offer low-allergenic wines. Glycoproteins are proteins coated with sugar that get produced naturally while the fermentation of grapes takes place.

Almost 8 percent of wine consumers across the globe suffer from allergies caused by drink.
