British wine drinkers lack knowledge

A survey by British supermarket chain Morrisons suggest that many of us in the UK are lacking in wine knowledge, despite being the second-biggest consumers of wine in the world. Many confuse wine regions with grapes, with more than 50% who think Chablis is a type of grape and 43 per cent who identified Chardonnay as a region in France. Almost three-quarters of those surveyed said price is their main motivation when selecting a wine and a third didn't consider it important to match their wine with their food. Morrison say they are providing more in-store specialists to help shoppers learn more about choosing wines and matching them with foods.
