UK Christmas trading figures up and down

Wine warehouse Majestic has reported buoyant Christmas trading figures despite the coldest December on record in the UK. Total sales were up 6.4% over the Christmas period and like for like sales were up 3.7% over the previous year. Chief exec Steve Lewis was pleased with the results and estimated the bad weather probably took away 2% of sales. Meanwhile wine wholesaler Ellis of Richmond said that restaurants in London had suffered from the the bad weather and snow that hit just as the Christmas season was getting into full swing and some wine orders had been cancelled as a result.
