Naked Wines invests in US wine making facilities
UK online retailer Naked Wines, who has just expanded into Australia and the USA, is to continue its global expansion by opening a winery in California and say they will invest £5.5 million in independent winemakers. Naked Wine customers can choose to become “angels” by investing a small monthly sum in an independent winery and are then rewarded with discounted bottles. Now the company is offering winemakers the chance to crush their own wines for £65 per tonne at its new California winery. The aim is to support independent winemakers by removing their greatest costs - the wine making - and doing it for them, paid for by customers.
Last year turnover for the Naked Wines, which employs 12 staff, reached £20 million and it has more than 100,000 “angels” in the UK, who collectively invest £2 million a month and this is being used to fund the Australian and US expansion.
