- Richard Evans-Thomas on setting up Rathfinny Estate
Overview
Richard Evans-Thomas talks to us about his involvement in setting up the Rathfinny Estate in Sussex, located in the sunniest part of England on the South Downs. In April 2012 they will be planting the vineyard with the champagne grapes Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier but also Riesling. The estate is owned and funded by Mark Driver, previously a hedge fund manager, who has since studied for a degree in oenology at nearby Plumpton College. Richard says the aspect of the site and the chalky soil are perfect for growing grapes and producing the finest quality sparkling and still wines.
