Overview

Tom Cannavan of the Wine Gang talks to us about the term 'minerality' and how it is used as a descriptor for wine. But there is a lot of disagreement and debate as to whether you can actually taste minerality in wine. The minerals of course come from the soil but do they make their way into the grape so that you can taste them in a wine? Opposing views and theories from scientists to winemakers are abound yet Tom remains hopeful that the term minerality could, given enough use and exposure, become a catch all for describing a sharpness, elegance or crispness in a wine.
