2015 Syrah Masters results
The Global Syrah Masters was judged in September with 150 Syrah's from 14 different countries. At the entry level judges were looking for deep colour, juicy fruit and full bodied softness. At the top end they were seeking the aromatic perfumed Cote Rotie style. 131 of the 150 wines received a medal. 25 were awarded Gold and four the top accolade of Master including a Delas Hermitage Rouge Domaine des Tourettes from France, Casella 1919 Brands from Australia, Richardson Reserve Shiraz from the Blue Pyrenees Estate and 1 from Switzerland. What the competition did note was that there was an evolution in the style of New World Syrah towards elegance and restraint and away from high-alcohol monsters of the past.
