Electric glass furnace in Cognac a world first
Verallia has unveiled its revolutionary 100% electric glass furnace at its Cognac facility, marking a major milestone in sustainable glass production. This world-first technology cuts CO₂ emissions by 60%, setting a new standard for the industry.
The new electric furnace, developed in partnership with Fives, is capable of producing 180 tonnes of glass daily, equivalent to 300,000 bottles. The furnace, designed to produce flint glass for premium brands, showcases Verallia’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions.
Located in a region with access to decarbonised energy, this furnace is a key part of the company’s strategy to cut emissions by 46% by 2030.
Verallia’s investment of €57 million in the project reflects its drive to pioneer low-carbon technologies in the glass sector, contributing to the global decarbonisation movement while maintaining its competitive edge in premium glass packaging.
