- Caroline Gilby MW on Eastern Europe Hungary Slovakia and Slovenia
Overview
Caroline Gilby is a Master of Wine and has a PhD in plant sciences. She began life in the wine trade as a buyer in 1988 and is an expert on wines from Eastern Europe. Caroline tells us about some of the key regions and how many countries have switched from being exporters of wine to having their own domestic wine culture. Having lost out to the emergence of New World wines around the time the iron curtain fell, Eastern European wines have come a long way with quality greatly improving in last 5 years. As well as Hungary we hear about the wines of Slovakia and Slovenia.
