- Orange wine with Doug Wregg of Les Caves de Pyrene
Overview
Doug Wregg of wine distributor and retailer Les Caves de Pyrene tells us about orange wines. They are made from white grape varieties but made in a red style, with the juice taking colour from skins and with lots of structure and tannins. These wines were originally made in Georgia many thousands of years ago, when people were drinking 'wine' (only recently, in the last century, have we been distinguishing between white and red wines) and are still being made in eastern Europe and in pockets of Italy and Spain. Now some of the New World growers are experimenting with orange wines. Doug tells us about the style of these wines and how they are made, often with a much more natural approach to wine-making.
