New Zealand vineyards shaken by earthquake
The 7.5 earthquake which struck North Canterbury on the South Island in New Zealand last week was felt throughout both the North and South Islands. Wineries in key wine growing areas such as Marlborough are currently reviewing the damage. In particular Yealands Estate has reported damage and has closed it doors for the time being. New Zealand Wine, the trade body for the New Zealand wine industry, reported severe damage in some places. Damage included broken bottles and damaged tanks. New Zealand sits on the Ring of Fire an arc of seismic faults around the Pacific Ocean where earthquakes are common. A few days after on the 22nd November, another earthquake of 5.9 was recorded in Wellington.
