Protest against Mosel bridge that could desecrate wine region
The wine writer Hugh Johnson is protesting against a new bridge and motorway which he says will desecrate some of the Mosel's finest vineyards. But he may be too late. Work has already started on the planned High Mosel Bridge and all appeals against the project have been rejected.
Opponents held a 'Last Chance' forum to bring the issue to the attention of the world with Hugh Johnson in attendance to show his support and urge protesters to continue fighting. Apparently the project will cost around €500m of public money and will cut journey times by only 30 minutes.
