Argentina wine sales rocket on the back of Malbec

Wines of Argentina have been working hard to promote the country's flagship variety Malbec and it appears to have paid off. Malbec Day on 17th April saw global attention with tastings in Netherlands, Czech Republic, Poland, Russia and Helsinki. But it is exports to the UK which have rocketed by 25% in value and 12% in volume, making the UK now Argentina's third largest market worldwide. The falling value of the Argentine Peso for the last four years, will undoubtedly have helped to make wines from Argentina a more favourable option for UK wine drinkers. Majestic Wine also saw sales of Argentine wine priced above £9 rise by over 19% between January and April this year. Wines of Argentina will be focusing on its signature white grape variety Torrontés later in the year.
