Northern Chile winemakers suffer from drought

Whilst space is abundant in Chile, water is not, and so vineyards in the northern areas of Elqui and Limari are being left to die. Winemakers are unable to irrigate their vines due to terrible droughts. They are having to decide which part of their plots to keep and which they must leave. Equi's fruit production is said to be down by 45% and Limari down by 80%. This has occurred mainly in the valley's high zones where the grapes are predominately used for Pisco. This weather seems to changing Chile's wine map as producers are being forced to plant further south in areas like Bio Bio.
