NZ Sauvignon Blanc will be in short supply in 2021

NZ Sauvignon Blanc will be in short supply later this year as two low vintages and buoyant sales reduce supplies.

Pernod Ricard, the French company that owns New Zealand producers Brancott and Stoneleigh brands, has said that supplies for the frost-affected 2021 vintage will be down by 34% of what they need to meet the current market.

The price for contract grown grapes is going up and labour shortages from a New Zealand economy that is closed to foreign workers is also adding to the costs.

Bryan Fry, chief executive of Pernod Ricard Winemakers, said “Our primary focus now is to maximise the supply we have got and hold our listings on shelf”.
