New Zealand holds on top position as the highest average priced UK wines.
A recent Nielsen report shows that the country with the highest average price for a bottle of wine is New Zealand. Its wines sell for an average of £7.37, above the overall UK average which is £5.46.
New Zealand is the leading country in the UK in more ‘premium’ categories in particular the £7-8 bracket where it has grown 23% year on year and in all price categories over £7 New Zealand is now second to France in both volume and value.
Overall, while the UK wine market declined 2% last year, New Zealand saw a 10% increase. Sauvignon Blanc remains the most popular New Zealand wine with UK consumers and New Zealand is growing its share of total Sauvignon Blanc sales with a 39% market share.
