Romanian Pinot Noir, is it the future of entry level Pinot Noir in the UK?
Romanian wine has seen sales growth in the UK and recent listing of their Pinot Noir in Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, the Co-op and Majestic has helped drive growth.
Romanian wines enjoyed a 16.7% increase in volume in the year to September 2021 according to IRI, a market analytics company. Romania is a large wine producer and comes in fifth position for areas under vine in the EU (after Spain, France, Italy and Portugal).
Kathryn Glass, wine buyer for Kingsland Drinks, told the Drinks Business magazine 'Romanian Pinot Noir is now a worthy mainstay in UK supermarkets, joined also by some other international varieties from Romania. It’s a really exciting time for Romanian wines and we’re seeing interest peak on the shelves.'
