Wine in a paper bottle goes on sale in the US
British packaging firm GreenBottle has launched the world’s first paper wine bottle in conjunction with Californian wine producer Truett-Hurst. It is made from compressed recycled paper and weighs just 65g vs 400g for an average glass wine bottle.
Inside there is a recyclable thin plastic liner which contains the wine. After use the paper bottle can be separated from the plastic liner and both can be recycled. The carbon footprint is one third that of a traditional glass bottle due to its reduced weight.
Truett-Hursts’ Paperboy wine bottle will be the first paper wine bottle in the world to go on sale, making its debut in the US this week in supermarket chain Safeway.
