Mavrik claims to have found the solution to smoke taint

US company Mavrik North America claims to have found the solution to the problem of smoke taint in wine.

Smoke tainted wines have become the curse of Australia and California, and the resulting wines have a loss of fruit, unattractive smoke flavours and a harsh mouthfeel.

Mavrik claims that by using a range of filters, the molecules responsible for the smokey aromas can be removed, while the harsh mouthfeel can be fixed through fining using non-traditional fining agents. They say the cost to the producer of making these adjustments ranges between 5-10p per bottle of wine.
