Watch out pest it's the attack of the drones
A remote controlled helicopter is being used in California to spray vineyards with pesticide. The RMAX Yamaha helicopter which is pilot free and weighs just 140 pounds can carry 2.1 gallons of liquid and spray upto 2 acres in 6 minutes without soil compaction or pilot risk. Traditionally this was done by tractor or hand spraying but this method offers flexibility with quick and very localized spraying. This method is particularly attractive to vineyards located on steep hills and mountainous terrain where tractors find it hard to navigate. Yamaha are currently applying for authorization from the Federal Aviation Administration for use of their vehicles for agricultural purposes.
