Number of UK wine producers reaches a new high, with the Welsh growing strongly

In 2016 the number of UK wine producers increased by 11% to 397, up from 352 in 2015, according to accountancy group UHY Hacker Young.

The number of producers has been rising steadily but it is not all England. The number of Welsh producers has grown from 17 to 25 since 2013. The volume Welsh wine has grown 70 percent over the past decade with production more the 100,000 bottles a year. Robb Merchant, of the Welsh Vineyard Association, believes Welsh wine is set to double by 2020.

Judging for the Welsh Vineyard Association’s annual awards has 40 wines from 14 producers.
