A no deal Brexit will cost the UK industry £70m in form filling according to WSTA

The Wine and Spirits Trade Association (WSTA) claims 600,000 forms will need to be filled in so that European wines imported into Britain can continue to flow. The EU accounts for 55% of wines consumed in the UK, so a no deal Brexit will see the wines needing to be taxed and tested as with wines from many other countries. As a result, the WSTA is calling for a temporary suspension on all wine tariffs until the end of 2020. It also claims importers should increase stocks by 20% to ward off negative impacts of Brexit.
The current EU tarrif is between 6.5p to 8p a bottle, and is separate to the UK Duty of £2.23 that came into effect on the 1 February 2019.
