Are we all about to enjoy the delights of South Africa?

A weak currency, a local market banned from drinking and a harvest that is both good quality and decent quantity. Is South African wine is set to over deliver on value?

South Africa can produce stunning wines as well as good quality quaffers. The wines from the 2020 vintage are about to arrive into the UK, so could South Africa fit the top value for money category?
This year's harvest was a return to normal outputs after two heavily drought influenced seasons where exports have been limited. In 2020 South Africa domestic sales of alcohol have been banned off and on during the Covid-19 pandemic. This leaves the export market to take a larger supply than normal.

Exports will be easy to achieve as the local currency continues to weaken against the Euro USD and the British Pound, meaning that prices can soften to increase volume.

With the 2020 wines arriving over the next few months, this vintage should see prices that make us all smile. UK retailers usually know a good opportunity when they see it, with Majestic announcing in September that it was increasing its South African range by 17%.
