WSET starts trading again in China, just in time for new CEO Michelle Brampton

The WSET has resumed courses in China, just in time for new CEO Michelle Brampton.

Approval has now been granted in time for new CEO Michelle Brampton who joined the WSET this week.

To gain approval WSET had to set up an new office in Shanghai as a overseas non-government organisation. The new office will complement its global network of offices in London, Hong Kong, and Connecticut, USA.
Overseas expansion was the key driver for departing CEO Ian Harris in his 20 years at WSET. When Ian joined the business in 2002, 10,000 students were enrolled annually – two thirds of them from the UK. In the last academic year over 108,000 students in 70 countries around the world took one of the WSET’s nine qualifications, with 87% from outside the UK.

Michelle previously spent 19 years at Treasury Wine Estates (TWE), where she most recently held the role of managing director Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) from 2018 to 2021.
