AOC Wines by the Can?

Screw caps, plastic corks, wine handbags...whatever next? Could wine in a can catch on? French company Winestar is targeting a younger market with wine in a can. They say young people have stopped taking wine on picnics and so Winestar has teamed up with award-winning winemaker Pol Flandroy at Château de l'Ille to produce a new range of wine in cans. Incredibly sales of wine in cans in Germany are already at 60 million cans a year, so the French could be onto a winner.

The first Winestar wines are a range of AOC Corbières red, white and rosé from the Château de l'Ille in Languedoc-Roussillon. The 187 ml cans sell at €2.50 each or €59 for a case of 24 (equivalent to six bottles). The cans will soon be available nationwide in Carrefour City stores.
