French say NON!
The meeting between French president Francois Hollande and Hassan Rouhani the 7th president of Iran was cancelled this week, because the French refused to remove wine from the menu. This is the first time in 17 years that an Iranian leader has lunched alone while visiting Paris. This follows on from nude statues in Rome being covered up by the Italians in advance of Mr Rouhani's visit. The French made it quite clear that no such cultural concessions would be made regarding its cherished gastronomy. The Italians however never serve alcohol when they have visiting Muslim dignitaries as a diplomatic gesture. Iran is a country where the culture ministry has just banned the word wine from books on the grounds that it amounts to cultural invasion of the West.
