Bordeaux 2016 was a big one
The 2016 vintage is big, and in the tank, according to Gavin Quinney's annual look at how much wine was made in Bordeaux’s latest 2016 vintage. It looks like a vintage most producers will be happy with, both Merlot and Cabernet had a good if somewhat different summer. Cabernet Sauvignon flowered during rains, resulting in a decreased harvest, but along with Merlot, they both enjoyed a dryish summer. Perfect conditions for Merlot to produce a bumper crop.
Some of the producers on well-draining stony soils may have suffered a small amount of water stress particularly if the vines where young. At the best the water stress could reduce yield and increase concentration, a desire of many quality producers.
