Bordeaux hit by hailstorms

Around 7,000 hectares of vines where severely hit by a freak hail storm in Bordeaux this week.

The worst hit areas where in the Côtes de Bourg and Blaye with around 3,000 ha very badly struck, and southern Médoc and Pessac-Léognan. The intensity of the storm was unprecedented said Pierre-Henry Cosyns, winemaker in Bourg and owner of Château Grand Launay.

According to a Decanter report, Jean-Luc Zell, the director of Château d’Agassac in Ludon-Médoc said the danger for us is now the risks of ‘coulure’ (when partially-formed berries dry up) and the quality of wood for next year.
