Bordeaux 2021 prices expected down on a mixed vintage
Bordeaux’s 2021 wines come to market with prices expected down on a mixed vintage. A survey of merchants suggest 71% think volumes will be down on the 2021 Bordeaux En Primeur wines.
Liv-ex, a global marketplace for fine wines, surveyed its merchant membership, concluding that the 2021 vintage will be the worst since 2017 which it just beats. Nearly 54% of merchants are expecting sales volumes to be down by over 20%, but with prices predicted to soften by just 2.7% compared to the 2020 vintage.
In difficult years the best wines get a chance to shine, and the top five wines from the 2021 Bordeaux vintage are:
Margaux
Lafite Rothschild
Figeac
Cheval Blanc
Ausone
Cheval Blanc has released its first tranche of wines which are up 3% on 2020 at €390 per bottle ex-Bordeaux. Decanter's Georgie Hindle gave it 96 points and positioned it as 'one of the success stories from the challenging and heterogeneous Bordeaux 2021 vintage'.
